There is nothing scarier than you driving through Port Orange without a care in the world, when all of a sudden, an unexpected clicking noise happens. If you notice an unrecogizable sound when you are driving down the road in Ormond Beach, we strongly recommend visiting our service center to make sure there aren’t any issues. The reason for the clicking noise could originate from a variety of issues, from low engine oil to problems with your brakes, so be sure to schedule an appointment sooner rather than later so that additional costs don’t accrue over time.

Potential Reasons Your Car is Making a Clicking Noise When Driving

1. Low or Dirty Engine Oil

If your car is making clicking sounds when driving, a likely culprit is low or dirty engine oil. Motor oil lubricates all of the components so that you can drive with ease. If you are running low on engine oil, the metal parts may start to tap and grind over time. If you smell burning oil or feel your car’s performance is decreasing, be sure to get an oil change (every 3,000 miles if you are using regular oil and every 7,500 miles if you are using synthetic oil).

2. Faulty Battery or Alternator

If you are hearing a clicking sound, it’s possible there is an issue with the starter system. There can be a faulty battery or alternator, so jump-start the battery with help from a friend or neighbor. If your battery dies shortly after, then you might have a problem with your alternator.

3. Loose or Worn Brake Pads

If the clicking happens when you are braking, that means you might have a loose brake pad. A worn brake pad makes a squealing or grinding noise. In order to check your brake pads, you should identify the wheel the clicking sound comes from, raise the car at least 6” off the ground, unscrew the lug nuts, remove the wheels, and examine the brake pads. If you see that there is a problem, be sure to visit our service center.
