How to Do a Tire Rotation Yourself

Row of tires

No matter if you rotate your tires yourself or go to the service center to get your vehicle taken care of, tire rotation is a key part of maintenance that you won’t want to skip. Tire rotation keeps your tires going at full strength for longer, and you’ll avoid the potential for a blowout in Port Orange. Trust us — you don’t want that. We’ll tell you how to do a tire rotation at home so you can stay on top of maintenance DIY style.

How to Rotate Your Tires at Home

If you want to rotate your tires at home, you’ll need all of this:

  • Car jack
  • Lug nut wrench
  • Car jacks

After you’ve gotten your hands on these tools, you’ll want to perform the following steps in your driveway:

  1. Put on your parking brake for safety.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels but don’t remove them entirely. This step means you’ll be able to unscrew them much easier when the tire is elevated.
  3. Lift up one wheel with a car jack and place the jack stand below it.
  4. Take the tires off one by one.
  5. Be sure to check to make sure your Ormond Beach tires have the proper pressure. After you’ve got them filled, you can rotate them according to the pattern for your kind of tires. Place the tire onto the wheel mount and screw the lug nuts on by hand as far as you can get them.
  6. Take the car off the jack stands and use the lug wrench to finish tightening the nuts. You’ll want to work diagonally from one to another in the shape of a star to ensure even tightening. If you don’t have the lug nuts tightened evenly, you might warp the brake rotor.

If you’ve got a front or rear wheel drive vehicle, you’ll want to rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. However, if you’ve got an all wheel drive vehicle, you’ll want to rotate them every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
