What Does TPMS Mean?

Hand Holding Tire Gauge to Tire

What does TPMS mean? TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and is a system of sensors that monitor the air pressure in your tires. It notifies drivers if it senses one or more of your vehicle’s tires aren’t at the recommended pressure. The TPMS warning light will appear on your dashboard or flash, so you know to add air to your Mitsubishi Mirage or Outlander. Most new vehicles have TPMS, simplifying your vehicle maintenance on Port Orange roads, and preventing tire failure when driving around Ormond Beach.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Features

Your tire pressure monitoring system will notify you if your tire pressure drops too low. The warning light will pop up on your dashboard and might look like a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle of it, or it might just be the illuminated letters “TPMS.” If you notice that your tire pressure light is on, it means your tires aren’t inflated properly, which could cause:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Poor fuel economy

In the short-term, proper tire inflation protects you from a potential accident, and in the long run, it can prevent your tires from wearing out prematurely and even optimize fuel economy. A tire pressure monitoring system is a great way to keep track of your tire pressure during your Palm Coast travels without having to remember to do manual checks yourself.

Proper Tire Inflation

If your tires aren’t properly inflated you can experience issues, but properly inflated tires will reduce tread movement, increasing the lifespan of your tires. Proper inflation also reduces rolling resistance and increases water dispersion (preventing you from hydroplaning).

You can easily stop at a gas station in Palm Coast or Ormond Beach to inflate your tires or come to our service center in Daytona Beach. If you are in a pinch, you can even use a bike pump!
